financial aid? Is anyone able to answer this question or had similar experiences? 18 years ago I was in default on a student loan I did make arrangements and paid the loan back. I was wondering will this bar me from receiving financial aid now I am planning to attend classes for a degree. I have completed my FASA and am eligle for aid but I am afraid because of my bad choices years ago they will deny me. Is this possible?

My father's visa expired some time ago and because of problems with INS papers, the visa is now out-of-status and our case cannot be appealed. I DO have a social security number, a valid employment authorization card, a CA driver's license, work for a US company, and pay taxes. However, I am unable to get federal financial aid because I am neither a US citizen or a Permanent Resident. I am really struggling with paying tuition, so I am wondering if there is ANY way I can start the legalization process at this point. Med school is expensive, and without aid, I don't think I'll be able to go. Any advice? Just to clear things up, I came here LEGALLY with my family when I was a child. My social security number and driver's license, along with my employment card, are ALL VALID and not FRAUDS or STOLEN. I get very good grades and go to a very good school (UCLA). I did NOT ask to be here illegally -- my dad messed up with the papers while he was trying to adjust our status and somehow my siblings and I got stuck in this situation. I am not much different than the other students in my classes. Most of them were just lucky enough to have been born here. For the past 2 years, I've been borrowing from my friends to pay my tuition and paying them back as soon as I earn enough. I know the DREAM act would solve all my problems, but there's no way of knowing when and if it will be passed. I don't expect the government to give me a free ride (although I definitely qualify for it). All I am asking for is any way to start the legalization process with my status if I am already 21. and for those wondering, YES I DO PAY TAXES and have been for the 4 years I've had jobs. Please don't give me the "why should I pay for criminals" crap because I'm paying taxes too. I've been here for 13 years and basically grew up in the US and just recently became out of status. I know it's my dad's fault for not taking care of adjusting our status, but if you know of any way at all that I can petition for a visa MYSELF, I would really really appreciate it. I have thought about just dropping out of college because it's getting very expensive without any aid at all, but I am very diligent and determined to succeed.

Financial Aid....? I applied for financial aid and was approved. However, it says things about Subsidized and UnSubsidized loans. I do not want a loan it tells me how much I can get. I wanted the tuition to go down. I though financial aid was a way of asking the school to help by not charging me so much. financial aid? I have been in school (college) for a year now I receive financial aid. But I failed one class and now the school has it where my next class is the class that I failed. Financial Aid..? Ok, so I work about 20 hours a week on a $9 an hour salary (which is a joke). I am going to get my W-2 soon, but I was wondering more about the whole financial aid issue. I received a 2007-2008 financial aid reward (Pel/Cal Grant) of about $1500 per quarter, which is enough to cover my tuition and barely a couple hundred extra that I usually pay for books with. The previous year, 2006-2007, I received a lot more than that amount since I didn't record my income, which helped me out a lot. The 2007-2008 year was less because I entered into the application that I received a certain income throughout the year, but that I was also dependent. I'm afraid that they won't grant me the amount that I need to pay for tuition and books for 2008-2009, since I am working. Do I HAVE to mention my salary? I don't know if it's considered as anything, because what I make just makes up for gas, cell phone bills, doc's visits, etc. What'll happen if I don't enter my salary on the application? Pls help!

Financial aid? I was wondering about how much financial aid am I eligible for. I want to get in to a good school (Emory). The tuition there is about, 35000/year, and since i live in driving distance i dont have to worry about room and board. I am of Asian descent. My parents (married) have a combined income of 40,000/year and there are 6 people in my household. I will be the only one attending college of my siblings, and be the first in my family to attend. My parents have paid off the hous, valued at 250K. I am a senior and have gotten all A's in highschool (4.0 GPA). I am taking 2 AP classes (English 4, and Euro. History) 2 Honors (Trig. and physics), and 2 regular (Human Anatomy, and Intro. to Engineering). I have not taken the SAT/ACT, but plan to next month. From my PSAT, I expect my scores to e about: Math: 750 Reading: 680 Writing: 650 So of the 35,000$ tuition, how much do you think financial aid might cover?

Financial Aid? I applied for financial aid and I would like to know if I should let the college that I'm attending handle my financial aid bills or should I receive the check and do it myself. Financial aid? Hey everyone. I am 21 years old and have been looking to go back to school. My income is incredibly small and by that measure, I should receive a lot of money in grants. However, because I am under the age of 24 I am considered a dependent of my parents still and my financial aid eligibility is based on their income so I receive nothing, even though they don't support me financially. The only way that I can file as independent is if I happen to have a baby. Well, I ended up getting pregnant and this past Tuesday, I was only 21 weeks and was induced because the baby had a fatal birth defect. She was born alive, but only lived 7 minutes. I hope I don't sound awful for saying this, but could I still use that to file as an independent to go back to school? The hospital said she would get a social security number and that would help with taxes. I don't know about financial aid. I feel it would help me heal to do something positive with my life like school right now. Thanks

I was advised by my financial aid counselor to take out another student loan for the amount.
