Help with spring 2008 fafsa financial aid for community college? I applied for my financial aid back in the winter 2007 semester, and received my money for the classes as well as a refund check for the left over amount. Do I recieve another check for this semester just like the last one or was the refund check supposed to be for this semester to use for classes and books? Or do I file again this semester? Can someone please help me with this?
A question about FAFSA financial aid for school? from what i understand fafsa awards financial aid based on the efc or expected family contribution and then pay for whatever your family cant. i however was a ward of the state and therefore the state was my guardian. i still know my family and am in contact with them sometimes. so will fafsa expect my family members to pay for the schooling if they are not my guardians and dont plan on giving me anything?
How do I get my FAFSA/Pell Grant Financial aid award letter? I have completed filling out my FAFSA online and recieved a submission confirmation and my EFC. Am I supposed to be recieving letters or something either by mail or email after my completion? I did recieve a letter from my college saying that they are in receipt of my request for Federal Stsudent Financial Aid through FAFSA... etc. Is this the aid award letter? If not, how do I go about getting it?
How does FAFSA figure the financial aid you should receive? I just completed my FAFSA. I've lived on my own for two years but I still need my parents tax information, which I think is ridiculous. Does anybody know how they figure what you are able to receive in financial aid? Well, I've already done all this. I've done my parents tax information, and mine. I just don't understand how they assume that if you're under 25, you still need your parents tax information.
Is financial aid (FAFSA) free money? or do you have to pay it back? I applied for FAFSA and since my parents no longer support me it said I was eligiable to recieve money. I'm in the middle of doing paperwork with my school so I haven't gotten anything yet...but I was wondering if the money I get is free or if I have to pay it back? Also, if anyone's recieved financial aid...do they give you one lump sum? and can you spend it on whatever you want or do you have to show them proof? Thanks!
Do people lie on FAFSA and financial aid to get more money? My dad told me to lie on my FAFSA so that we would get more money. I refused and now my parents are paying huge bucks to send me to college. We are basically going to be poor now. Should I remake a FAFSA and lie on the form to get more money? Do a lot of people do it?
How does getting a job affect the FAFSA & financial aid process? Does it lower my chances of receiving aid? I need to get a job, and I am thinking of doing so due to my family's financial situation at the moment. If I get a job (even a part-time job), will this affect me in a negative way when I apply for FAFSA aid? Will I get less financial aid when applying for it from the universities I am choosing to attend? (I yearn to attend an Ivy League university, specifically Harvard, and will apply to study there). Will my financial aid package be less than others because I have worked, and have therefore "outside assistance" that can be used to pay off the tuition? Will I be awarded scholarships, regardless of me having a job? Please help. Thank you for your answers.
Does having a joba affect the FAFSA & financial aid application process? Will I get less aid if I have a job? I am thinking of getting a job, and will do so due to my family's current financial situation. If I get a job (even a part-time job), will this affect me in a negative way when applying for FAFSA aid? Will I get less aid from the universites I am planning to attend? (I will apply to Ivy League universities, specfically Harvard; this will be my first choice). Will I be able to get scholarships to pay off my tuition, even though I may have a job in the future? Please help me. Thank you for your answers.
Working and Savings affect Fafsa Financial Aid Question College? This year I got quite a bit of financial aid including the pell grant to go to school. I had around 2000 in savings and my parants made under 20000. I am wondering how much my financial aid will change if I make 6000 and have a total of around 10000 in savings. Does it matter how much you make or just your parents if you are a dependant. thanks
Does anyone know how to claim INDEPENDENCE from your parents for FAFSA financial aid and college purposes?? My father told me that if i claim independence then i might be able to get more financial aid. my parents incomes are too high for anything and everything so i dont think it would be any different here. But unfortunetely I have siblings who need to go to school too so college is a big expense. Does anyone know how to claim independence so that i will be eligible for financial aid?? i plan to go to Eastern Michigan University... (if that means anything)
Can you get in trouble for exagerrating facts or leaving out facts on your fafsa to boost financial aid? I will be going through FAFSA obviously. For hypothetical, my parents are still married and together they earn $90,000, if I only list my mother's income which is $30,000, is that a bad choice to make? I'm just upset how I already know FAFSA is going to offer loans, because they have a middle-class income, too much to qualify for grants and yet, they can't pay a private school tuition up front. Then, I hear about these freeloaders spending their financial aid on superficial, materialistic things. DAMN THEM! thanks for your help!
FAFSA- financial aid disbursment @ a community college? When i went to a university here to get info on tuition etc- they told me their financial aid is capped at 17,000 for a student- so when you signed up for classes- fafsa would send them a check for 17,000 and they would take out your tuition and housing etc and then you get whats left in a check from the school to you for living expenses (ie apartment rent if not living on campus, car payment etc). Is it the same for a community college? Or are they different- or does it just depend on the school? When i called here the girl was a b***h who answered the phone and just said, "whatever is left goes to the bookstore so you can get your books, that's all i know" Does anyone know????? oh ok. I did not know that- and 4 years ago i attended and got financial aid and never recieved anything- but had an EFC of 0- at that time i didnt even know they would cover the cost of books. So i guess by not knowing that and never getting the money or my books paid for ( i just paid out of pocket for them- or rather my mom did haha) i just missed out on that? Just trying to figure it out- im signed up to go back this semester and need the money to cover my supplies and rent while in school.
FAFSA, Financial Aid...how much can I expect to receive? I'm a junior in high school and would like to attend a private college during the 2007-2008 school year and I'm wondering how much I can expect to receive (rough estimate), in grants from the government and financial aid/grants from whatever college I attend. Here is my mother, who will be filing the FAFSA form and reporting financial info to the college I will be going to, financial info: -Her net worth is approximately 700k, most of which is locked up in the house -She doesnt work and didnt file a tax return last year but gets 4k per month in alimony from my Dad. The divorce was finalized a couple months ago (not sure if that makes a difference) -I currently dont have a job but plan on getting one this summer and working 15-20 hours per week -I have a total of 4 people in my household, a brother who will be in 8th grade next year and sister who will be in 10th, my mother and myself. So how much can I expect to receive?
Fafsa/Financial Aid? I had summitted my fafsa form online before the deadline. I used my parents 2006 income to guess their 2007 income. I didn't really know what I was doing as I had to do the whole thing by myself. I did not purposely lie but i don't think the information may be accurate either. The school have already started sending in their financial aid packages (one college has asked for verification). I don't want to accept them until i have given them the correct info. My parents just filed their 2007 income tax forms. Can i still change my fafsa information now and have them change their financial aid package? I don't want to be charged for fraud b/c i really didn't know what I was doing. I am very worried about this...
Does guardians income affect in receiving financial aid (FAFSA)? MY BROTHER GOES TO SCHOOL. HE HAS APPLIED FOR FAFSA (FINANCIAL AID). OUR PARENTS DO NOT LIVE WITH US, THEY LIVE IN OTHER COUNTRY. SO NOW IF I CLAIM HIM AS DEPENDENT, CAN HE GET FINANCIAL AID. ALSO YOU CAN CONSIDER MY INCOME AS 50K. SO WITH THIS INCOME CAN I CLAIM HIM AS DEPENDENT AND AT THE SAME TIME CAN HE RECEIVE THE FINANCIAL AID. ALSO MY BROTHERS INCOME IS AROUND 10K.
Financial Aid (FAFSA)/Cal Grant Question PLEASE HELP!!!? Hello, I am a senior at Long Beach Poly High. I will be attending San Diego State next year. I filled in my fafsa and my EFC=$0 I have a 3.5 high school GPA My High school has sent in my gpa verification for Cal grants I was wondering, if my financial aid and cal grants will cover for my housing in addtion to tuition at SDSU? How much financial aid will i get from the FAFSA and how much will i get form the Cal Grants? Im sure i will get the highest reward for the cal grant and financial aid since my parents income is so low and i have a high GPA.
anybody in voc rehab? If you are, did u apply for Financial Aid -FAFSA? If you did apply, in your FAFSA, did u declare that you were getting money from voc rehab? A lot of people dont declare it, nad they say its fine, but Im wondering if its legal to get financial aid fromt the FEDS and voc rehab money at the same time. Please ask me if u didnt understand the question.
Fafsa/financial aid? I have some questions about the fafsa. 1.) If my parents total income is less than $30,000 do you think I should get a lot of aid? Bcuz im poor, and I cant afford college without financial aid. 2.) How long do you have to wait to hear something if you do it online?
How do they determine on FAFSA how much you will get for financial aid? Is it based on how much the school tution, your age, your income, and the school? I don't live with my parents, I am in my late 20s possibly thinking about attending school. I know what FAFSA is, but I just want to know how do they determine how much they will approve for financial aid. Thanks!!
FAFSA Financial Aid Income Requirements? I wanted to know if there are any Financial Aid Income Charts or schedules so someone can know how much the maximum is that the parents can make for the child to still get aid and so on.... is there a formula or a char tor anything>? Please include sources...
FAFSA financial aid pell grant EFC? I filled out a EFC calculator and it said i qualified for the automatic zero EFC but when i filled out the FAFSA i got an EFC of 600. I am wondering why it is higher and with an EFC of 600 what pell grant amount can i expect. Cost of tuition is 8000 and room and board is another $7000 at my school and last year i recieved the pell grant for just under $4000. thanks for any help!
FAFSA? Financial Aid? Could someone please tell me when the FAFSA is out again? I would like to take it for 2008 and I want to know when its ready again as soon as possible. Also, does anyone know of any other financial aid or scholarships that could help with my CC preliminaries that doesn't involve being in highschool? Lots of information would be GREAT. Thanks so much
question about financial aid and fafsa deadlines? the Financial aid priority deadline for my school was april 10th. and the application deadline is in september. i applied and sent in my info on the fafsa site online on the april 1st before my states deadline and listed my cc on the list to recieve my information. i haven't applied at the cc yet and my efc was 0. does that mean i'm too late to get the pell grant?
How much does my FAFSA influence a grad schools financial aid evaluation? I have applied to 2-year City Planning grad school. It will prbly cost, living and all, about $100,000 for those two years. I am an independent 24 year old living on my own, renting and financing a car. I make about 45K, but only have about 2k at the end of all expenses. I filled out my FAFSA and it says my expected contribution is $14k per year. How will schools interpret this, since I will no longer be making the 45k while I am a student, and since this 45k doesn't all get saved up. I have been told I might not qualify for Stafford Loans. What other affordable loans can I get if the school doesn't offer me some other form of financial aid. Thanks
FAFSA Financial Aid Student Dependent? Hi, I'm an unmarried 18 year old college student about to start my sophomore year. I am wondering if it is possible to file and list your own tax return for the FAFSA form if you are not listed as a dependent on your parents' taxes. All my income is from private sources, meaning no tax forms. Is it possible to file the FAFSA with my own tax form even though I'm not 24? Thanks.
FAFSA/Financial Aid Question..? My parents no longer claim me on their taxes, so I am no longer a dependent... So does that mean that I will be eligible to receive more aid when I fill out the FAFSA? Or am I still going to have to fill out all of the family information and get an EFC number? thanks.. Also does it make a difference that family won't help pay for costs for college? Because then that would make all of the questions about my parents bank info completely irrelevant if they dont help....
Got Financial aid - FAFSA, but doesnt disburse for a few weeks. If I pay with CC will I get the whole check? I received a FAFSA award for this semester at school. However, my award isnt getting disbursed for a few weeks. I need to pay for books and would like to pay for my tuition so I can use the on campus gym and medical care the tuition provides. If I pay for this semesters fees with a credit card before I get my financial aid, will I get the complete award offer as a check in the mail? Or would this potentially harm the whole financial aid process? I know they usually send the leftover money after they automatically apply it to your school expenses... but I cant wait for books and health care! Thanks so much
FAFSA Financial aid help? okay so i am going to get married on 7/7/2007 and i am going to talk to a financial aid person at the college tomorrow i have 2 kids and only make 12000 alone so if i take care of the financial aid tomorrow will i get the grant or do i have to show income every month? will getting married screw me on my college tuition for this year?

Withdrawing a class with a grade of "W" affects my Financial Aid (FAFSA)? I'm taking this class with a professor that is unbelievable. He get's annoyed when someone asks him questions after he "explains" (he doesn't do that very well, he assumes we already know what he's explaining and goes by very fast) something, and he's very rude to us. He treats us like if we were inferior to him. He doesn't seem to like what he's doing and as a consequence we're all failing. Most of my classmates quit showing up. I'm mostly an A student and my current average on his class is 69. I doubt I can raise it to a B, so I'm considering on withdrawing it with a "W" but would that affect my financial aid? I would have to re-take that class sometime anyways. What would be better? To get a C and the re-take the class, or to withdraw with a W? Thanks! @ beardog: OMG, I didn't think about that! Yeah, it applies to semesters to, at least at my univ. If I withdraw with a "W" I would lose the three credits from that class and my schedule would not be full time. Geez, I guess I won't be able to withdraw because next time I apply they're going to give me less $$$ because "I didn't attend full time"
Should I file my FAFSA (financial aid) ASAP? even if my parents havent filed their taxes yet? The fafsa has been open to submission since January 1, 2008 and I am constantly hearing that it should be submitted as soon as you can immediately after the first. However, I went to do it and struggled a bit since my parents income taxes have not been filed yet for the 2007 period. The instructions tell you to answer everything despite having filed a 2007 income tax or not so for most of them, I used 2006 as a estimation/reference. I know this is not accurate and probably isn't right so I haven't submitted yet. Should I wait until the taxes are filed? That's not going to be until another few good weeks and I'm afraid that the aid won't be as much if I fail later. Please advise, thank you =)
FAFSA and Financial Aid? So, I filled out the forms at the beginning of the year, to recieve financial aid for fall. I got confirmation emails back a few days later letting me kow how to review my forms, and that my expected parent contribution is 0. How long do I have to wait to know wheather or not I'll be getting grants? And, is there anything else that I was supposed to do besides submit the FAFSA forms?
help on FAFSA financial aid application? I live with my father and my mother lives on her own. I filled out the application and put that i live with my mother cause my father wont give me his tax information. I have been enrolled in school the whole 2007 year always passing classes and good attendece. But my dad is going to file his tax return saying that i live with him. Will this mess anything up. i mean i had no other way to pay for school. at the begging of the term the did select me for verifacation and i gave her my mothers tax return and that was all. i just dont want him caliming me to mess up my aid
college financial aid... fafsa, student loans... so on...? I'm want to go to a private 4 year college next year (advertising design is ONLY offered at private colleges) and I need money. I have received a couple of scholarships but tutition is still going to be about $20,000. Plus living expenses it'll be 30K. My parents refuse to pay for it since they thing getting an arts degree is stupid so... I'm stuck making the decisions. I figured out if I get a loan I'll be repaying it forever and ever since there is nothing lower than 6.5 % interest I have heard and I have only found 8.5%. My parents make a pretty good income so I won't be getting Federal money... unless does the qualification from FAFSA depend on the tuition of the college you want to attend? I don't know where to get the money. 30 K is just so much. Help plz.
Financial Aid FAFSA? Hello, I am 25 and I decided to finally attend college. My question is concerning filling out the FAFSA.. I have not done my taxes for the past 3 years, so will that prevent me from filing it out??????
Help with financial aid (FAFSA) application!?!? I applied for the FAFSA and put all the information. Then, when I log in to check if they received the application, it says this: Application Not Found There is no application in our database that matches the Social Security Number (SSN), name, date of birth, and PIN that you entered. This might be because: * You do not have a 2008-2009 FAFSA on file. * Your last name has changed since you filed your application. I really need this because I the deadline is almost coming. Thanks for your help.
FAFSA and Financial Aid? My parents are divorced. When applying for financial aid, to I list my home income to include the parent I'm living with or both parents?
Financial Aid (FAFSA) and EFC part2? my school is worth 1800 that excludes book, so if i get this straight since my EFC is 1217, i'm going to pay that amoun and in turn they'll pay 883 dollars??? i'm in my senior year in university, not in high school
FAFSA and financial aid question? I filed my FAFSA. I am a single mom of four. Most of my income comes from child/spousal support, but the children are with me 100% of the time. I am not filing a tax return because the spousal/child support in not taxable income. Does anyone know where I report child/spousal support? Do I report that under wages? Since the children are with me 100% of the time and all the money I get goes towards them, dopes this qualify as them getting more than 50% support from me?
Financial Aid Help-FAFSA? I renewed my financial aid for school year 2007-2008. I want to take classes in the summer does that mean it's the 2006-2007 school year or is it 2007-2008. Can i get financial aid for the summer. If so do i have to renew for 06-07.
does conviction of consumption (not possesion)of marijuana deny me financial aid from FAFSA? I was 19 and i was not receiving financial aid, or going to school.. I am 21 now. but quoting the fafsa website its says below... Has the student been convicted for the possession or sale of illegal drugs for an offense that occurred while the student was receiving federal student aid (grants, loans, and/or work-study)? Count only federal or state convictions for the possession or sale of illegal drugs if the offense occurred during a period of enrollment for which the student was receiving federal student aid (grants, loans, and/or work-study). Do not count convictions that have been removed from the student's record. Do not count convictions that occurred before the student turned 18, unless he/she was tried as an adult. If the answer to this question is "Yes", you will be taken to a worksheet to help you determine if the conviction affects the student's eligibility for federal student aid. ----->i was never convicted of "Possesion" only "consumption" isn't that two separate charges we didn't have anything on us no joint no pipe nothing'
Anyone know how FAFSA for financial aid works? I applied online and it gave me a EFC eligibility # and I just want to know how much they will pay for. I cannot pay for college unless I get FA but no where do they tell you if they will pay for the year? The number is 1038 if anyone can help me. I am an adult so no parents income involved just mine.
FAFSA HELP!!! and other financial aid? Well I'm goin to be entering college this fall and I was accepted onto the SEEK program which pays for my full tuition and I was wondering since I also got a lot of money from FAFSA and TAP and other sorts of financial aid...besides for books and transportation, can I use that money for personal uses such as bills or if I want to buy a computer for school related purposes. Can I use it for personal use?
How can I recieve financial aid for college if my state (CA) FAFSA priority filing date passed? I am transfering from a community college to a public four-year for Fall 2007. I always filed for the BOGFW while attending community college. I was told I needed to file the FAFSA to recieve aid in the Cal State I was transfering to by March 2nd. Unfortunately I did not do it in time. Can I still file the FAFSA and recieve aid for the 07-08 school year? What other financial aid options are avaliable at this point?
FAFSA application and financial aid eligibility? I'd just like to make sure I'm in the clear here. I am filling out my financial aid information and have come across something intriguing. A few years ago I tried to apply for financial aid and lived on my own with no support but couldn't qualify because they wanted my parents income information. Now the tables have turned. I am 23 and living under my parent's roof again while I attempt to finish my college degree. On the application, it says that I am 'Independent' because I am 23 or older. Under 'Household/Family Size' it says that I should only include a spouse or dependents that receive more than half of their support from me. I make less than what is required for 'Automatic Zero'. Can I really take this to mean that I can make no money, live with my parents and simply because I'm over the age limit, I am still Independent and my EFC is really zero?
Why is it that FAFSA denies me financial aid eyery year in Harvard? I come from a poor family that only earns $55,000,000 gross yearly, my dad only owes 13 luxury homes accross the US and my mom is just the CEO of a huge company that only produces millions yearly. I attend Harvard like my parents did, I have a different car for each day of the week but my very favorite one to drive is the Bugatti Veyron that my aunt brought me as a birthday gift. I was raised in a small 15 bedroom mansion that had 10 maids only. I need the financial aid really bad, why don't they provide it to me? I'm really poor and $45,000 a year is a scam. My parents only give me allowance of $500,000 a month but I never have any money left by the end of the week. OMG! every week I go in our private jet to New York and buy the latest trends, when I'm in the mood I go to Paris and Italy to shop my clothes; Donatella Versace told me that I need a new haircut so John Frieda is coming home tonight with his staff to give me a totally amazing new look, OMG!!! see u later ^_^
Will a loan affect my financial aid (FAFSA)? My friend needs someone to pull a loan out for him. a $6000 loan. does anyone know if this will affect my fafsa money for next year or this year? I'm not just pulling a loan out for him, in return, he is co-signing for a car for me. either way, if one of us messed up, we will mess up the other person. basically, should he not pay his payment for the loan, i'll pay it, but not make a payment on the car. But CAN ANYONE ACTUALLY ANSWER THIS QUESTION?
Student Financial Aid Application (FAFSA) Expected Family Contribution=$0...Will I get money for school? Just curious if anyone knows about what I will get. Tuition is $2,300 per semester at state school. I just had to report my income because of my age (23). I didn't get to work much last year because of school (overloaded). This is my last semester of college (Fall '06). I have always got a small PELL grant and been offered loans. The reason I am asking is because this is the first year that I haven't had to include my mom's income on the FAFSA because I am now 23 and they consider that to be INDEPENDENT. ***REPEAT*** I am a senior, not a freshman. I have done this before and i just want to know how it works when your EFC is 0. Thank you all for your in-depth answers, but I know what PELL grants, Stafford Loans, and Perkins Loans are. I guess I should have been more specific in my question and details to begin with. Thanks for the answers!
