if i take an additional student loan will it subtract from my federal financial aid? i have financial aid through FAFSA but it isn't exactly enough and I need to take out an additional loan, if it is a student loan will my financial aid be revised and will i be given less? or does it have no influence on the money i receive from FAFSA? I ask this because student loans are usually run through your university's financial aid office...help please. asap.

I stopped going and was not smart enough to withdrawl so i got all F's. I'ts been 4 years now and i'm totally focused(have my situation under control now)and i want to go back to school. There is really no way i can go back without the financial aid/student loan. What are my chances of returning and getting financial help
Is there federal financial aid for graduate students? My parents income made me ineligible to receive any government grants during my undergraduate years. Now I'm 24 and able to claim myself. Does the federal government offer any grants to graduate students? I completed my FAFSA and got a generic message saying I "may" be eligible. Thanks. (incase anybody is wondering, I'm going to grad school to receive an MBA)
Is there Federal Aid/Financial Aid/Grants available for graduate students? I have exhausted my financial aid for my undergraduate studies, and I will graduate with my BS in Management (HR concentration) this May. I'm seriously considering getting my MBA starting this fall, and I was curious if I could get any financial assistance from the government? I could not find anything on the FAFSA website.
Must someone be a Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) to get Federal Loans, Grants, Financial Aid? This question involves federal financial aid and college bureacracy moreso than immigration law... Need my wife be a full LPR with the 10-year green card, or does it suffice to be a conditional (2yr green card holder, awaiting full LPR status and the 10 year card)? She otherwise meets all requirements to be eligible and we applied more than one year before the 2007-8 school year starts, so from everything I can research, she would seem to be eligible. However, the school classified her as a "non-resident for tuition purposes" anyway, so we will probably have to jump through some hoops, show the green card/marriage cert/ utility bills/pay stubs/ tax data to the residency office at the college. The college advised to just file the AB540 request which would exempy them from nonresident status, but this forces you to waive access to financial aid (I think AB540 is designed for mexican illegals, not for Japanese wives of citizens)... Any advice?
Federal Financial aid question? I applied for FAFSA and submitted all that stuff to the college a few weeks ago. The school financial aid office says that it will take several weeks to process that info (its been about 2 weeks already with that message). I also have an scholarship that pays for my tuition and lab fees so I only need money to pay for books. If I dont get the federal aid in time and i end up paying books with my own money, can i take the student aid money for myself whenever its approved?? I don't know how this works... Never done this before. Also can you take the money that you get from FAFSA and use it for living expenses?? how do u use it for living expenses? like do you go to financial aid office and get a check? or they mail you a check? Just wondering because I haven't received it yet, and I'd like to know how it works.
Federal Financial Aid-First Come First Serve? If federal financial aid first come first serve? I am just curious I am going back to school as a post undergraduate. I applied at my former college and was dissatisfied with the changes to the school. Before I actually started this school year I was awarded 11,000 for the full year. I applied at another school and was accepted one month before the spring semester is suppose to start. I was only awarded 2,500 for the one semester. I am thinking this is because it is so late in the year. Is that the case
Are ex-cons able to get federal financial aid for school? I have a friend who is about to get out of jail for possession of marijuana. He wants to turn his life around and go to college but he doesnt think he'll qualify for financial aid. And also what companies would hire him with a charge on his record? I know I've been calling around and checking on applications for him but no one wants to hire an ex-convict.
How can a college student get financial aid if he/she is undocumented? Can she start the legalization process? I'm currently a 3rd year UCLA student pursuing a career in medicine. My family came to the US from the Philippines in 1993 under my dad's L-1 Visa. I graduated from my high school at the top of my class, have worked numerous jobs, pay for my car, rent, and even have my own online jewelry business. HUGE problem though -- I'm undocumented and am unable to get financial aid. My father's visa expired some time ago and because of problems with INS papers, the visa is now out-of-status and our case cannot be appealed. I DO have a social security number, a valid employment authorization card, a CA driver's license, work for a US company, and pay taxes. However, I am unable to get federal financial aid because I am neither a US citizen or a Permanent Resident. I am really struggling with paying tuition, so I am wondering if there is ANY way I can start the legalization process at this point. Med school is expensive, and without aid, I don't think I'll be able to go. Any advice? Just to clear things up, I came here LEGALLY with my family when I was a child. My social security number and driver's license, along with my employment card, are ALL VALID and not FRAUDS or STOLEN. I get very good grades and go to a very good school (UCLA). I did NOT ask to be here illegally -- my dad messed up with the papers while he was trying to adjust our status and somehow my siblings and I got stuck in this situation. I am not much different than the other students in my classes. Most of them were just lucky enough to have been born here. For the past 2 years, I've been borrowing from my friends to pay my tuition and paying them back as soon as I earn enough. I know the DREAM act would solve all my problems, but there's no way of knowing when and if it will be passed. I don't expect the government to give me a free ride (although I definitely qualify for it). All I am asking for is any way to start the legalization process with my status if I am already 21. and for those wondering, YES I DO PAY TAXES and have been for the 4 years I've had jobs. Please don't give me the "why should I pay for criminals" crap because I'm paying taxes too. I've been here for 13 years and basically grew up in the US and just recently became out of status. I know it's my dad's fault for not taking care of adjusting our status, but if you know of any way at all that I can petition for a visa MYSELF, I would really really appreciate it. I have thought about just dropping out of college because it's getting very expensive without any aid at all, but I am very diligent and determined to succeed.
Transferring federal financial aid/scholarship? So every semester, I get about $1700 in federal unsubsidized loans and the Michigan Promise Scholarship of $500. I want to transfer schools, but how do I manage transfer this money with me too? I currently attend the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and wish to transfer to Washtenaw Community College.
Can I receive financial aid for the current Spring 2007 semester? As a result of some unexpected circumstances, I was extremely late in applying for federal financial aid for the 2006-2007 school year. I was awarded only $2650.00 for the entire year and I took out an education loan for $15,000. After paying tuition, apartment rent, books, and a million other unexpected fees/costs, I am realizing that I am going to have an extremely difficult time making ends meet for the current Spring semester. Is there anything I can do to get some significant financial help to continue funding my education?
What happens if I dont pay back financial aid? I applied for federal (not state) financial aid and got it. I started going to my classes for a little, then had to stop to help my family and work full time. Now they're asking for $540 back. Now i'm in another state, wanting to go back to school, but I know I cant get federal financial aid.. Would I get sued? Will my credit go bad? And if I try to pay it back, how much would it be monthlly.someone help me out on this
Federal financial aid? Is there a limit to how long you can be in school and receive financial aid? Can you do another Bachelor's after you graduate and receive financial aid toward the new degree? A friend of mine cannot find a job and is going for his second Bachelor's. I think it is a big load of cr#$ to keep getting financial aid if you already have a degree.
Can my financial aid officer limit the amount of my federal student loan? Hi. I was approved my full amount by my federal student loan people and I talked to my financial aid guy and they told me that I wouldn't be allowed to get the max because the loan people wouldn't let me. Well I found out that the loan people WILL but the school decides if I can get the amount I want. They decide if I need money or not. Can they do that? They have no right to tell me what I need and don't need. I pulled enough money out for graduate school and now I'm being shorted because they think I have a money tree in my back yard. Is there any way I can get the school to give me my full amount. I need that money for school and living expenses like it was taken out for.
How will it affect my financial aid award if I or my parents claim me for an exemption on federal tax forms? I am going to start medical school next year. I am 23 years old, and a college graduate. I am hoping to claim, for financial aid purposes, that I am an "independent" student, because from what I have heard my award will be better. Will my ability to do this be affected by my status in filing federal tax forms? I am currently employed full-time, so it would be possible either for me to claim myself for an exemption, or my father to claim me as a dependent. I am hoping to find out which is better, strategically, for applying for financial aid this year.

Financial Aid Question? Federal Pell Grant? Okay here is the deal. I work at a sheriff's office in Texas and I dont make that much money. I probably make about $21,000 and thats pushing it. I applyed for financial aid. I did it correct as far as I know. I just got a letter in the mail telling me from the school I applied for that I didn't quailfy for Federal Pell Grant but I might qualify for other types of grants. Well my question is....Are they bascially trying to tell me I make to much money to qualify for Pell Grant? I am 25, single and no kids. Just F.Y.I. Need some help here!! Thanks!
Financial Aid- Federal vs.? Ok, so my parents are divorced. I live with my mom, who makes a very little amount of money. My Dad, however, makes a ton. He would be considered extremely rich. But, my Dad isn't going to help pay for my college. So here is what I need to know- the schools I'm applying to are private colleges, and they all look at my Dads income. So I wont be getting any aid from the schools themselves. But I know that the fafsa and other federal aid programs only look at my moms finances. So, does the govt. give the aid itself? Because then I can expect some govt. aid. Or does it just recommend an amount to the school? Because if the school is awarding it, and they see how much my dad makes, I wont get any federal aid either. So basically, does the college decide how much federal aid I get, or does the govt.?
Do any of the federal financial aid loans pay off prior collegiate balances? I want to get back into school, but before I can do that, I need to pay off my past balance of $10,000. I already tried to apply for the Stafford loan, but I was told that it cant be applied to prior balances. I am trying to avoid gettin a personal loan from a bank because I have horrible credit. Is there any federal loan that will cover this? These are the loans I have heard about: - Auxiliary Loan Assistance for Students (ALAS) - Stafford Student Loan, formerly know as the Guaranteed Student Loan (GSL) - Parents Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS). Must be incurred for the use of the individual contracting for the program (not others such as relatives) - Consolidated Loan Program. Only covers the member's education expenses - Federally Insured Student Loans (FISL) - Perkins Loan, formerly known as the National Direct Student Loan (NDSL) - Supplemental Loans for Students (SLS)
I have some questions about financial aid? I filled out my FAFSA in January as soon as I finished my taxes. In April I received a letter from the school I'm hoping to attend to verify my taxes. I did that and they found an error in my taxes, so I had that corrected and sent the the new form. I still after several weeks have not heard from them. My question is will this delay cause me to lose federal financial aid? Also the state of Missouri says the federal processor must receive your FAFSA by April 1, will I be disqualified because of the tax error? Thanks
If I dont qualify for grants, does financial aid only include loans? I need aid advice!? I thought i knew about the federal financial aid process, but now I am doubting myself. Here are my thoughts and questions: I am wondering if I am going to qualify for any grants. If i dont qualify for state grants, will the aid I get only be i loans? I kinda thought that financial aid would take care of part of the cost of education, but not only through grants. What are the stipulations and qualifications for different government grants? I am married, 23, and our income is less than 35,000/year. My EFC was around 9,000. I dont know if those numbers are good or bad for aid... I wont be able to pay a lot myself because we have credit card debt and I dont want any more debt in our name. So, does anyone have any real, good advice for me? Ive been out of school for 4-5yrs but i was a smart, good student. I got a lot of a's and b's so my GPA was pretty good if that means anything. Please only answer if you have real advice, and if you know what you are talking about, thanks!!
Financial Aid Rejection, Please help!? I just got a letter in the mail saying that my federal financial aid was rejected due to academic ineligibility. I was awarded the money for the fall a few months ago and was just about to register for classes. This just came out of nowhere and I have no idea what is going on. They said that I could appeal it. I've had a few withdrawls over the last 2 years, but A's and B's otherwise. Before, my academic record is a bit checkered and I've been at a number of different community colleges. Finally, after I got to a 4 year and was about to go to school full time, they drop my aid! Anyone have any ideas what is going on? Can I look up academic standards anywhere? Who can I fight/yell at/kill? I'm really really really frustrated.
Help!?? Wanting to transfer colleges, Financial aid...? Ok, so I started college again about 3 weeks ago. It is definitely not a school I'd wanna stay in for more than a semester. I'm usually a 4.0 student and several others in my class are as well, but the professors rub it in that they can fail us if THEY wanted to, and how rich they are and all that jazz. I'm just wanting to transfer asap. I've gotten federal financial aid for 2007-08. How could I transfer during the spring semester? Is it at all possible??
how do you get federal aid? I am a african american/ cuban senior in high school. next year i plan to major in psyhology . I have a solid b average but i dont know where to start in applying for colleges or getting federal grants or financial aid. I know college is a major part in securing your future but i dont know where to start in getting there
I need some help with a financial aid appeal letter. Proof read please? Dear Office of Student Financial Aid: I am writing to appeal my suspension of federal aid after having difficulty during my fall and summer semesters. As a first time student after being out of school for ten years it was very overwhelming. It was hard being a mother of 7 kids, sharing one car between me and my husband, also working a fulltime job. These are the steps I have taken to ensure my academic success in the future: 1. I have resign from my job in order to concentrate on school. 2. Obtain a tutor for classes I find difficult. Make myself familiar with the tutoring center on campus. 3. Meet with each of my instructors to find out what would make me a better student in their class. 4. Organize my study time. 5. Go to class as scheduled on time. I would like to earn a degree in education. Without financial aid I lack the ability to do this. I am a hard working student and the upcoming semester will prove so. My education is of paramount importance to me. Thank you
Financial Aid Options for College Students? Hi, I have a young friend who is the first in his family to attend college. He's worried because he's used most of his options for financial aid (federal loans and grants) and still has a significant balance to pay. His financial aid officer told him that the only option at this point is a cosigned loan from a banking institution, which is next to impossible. Does anyone know about alternative options? Your suggestions are appreciated. Thanks
