- call the welfare department. They will help with all that.
- Try a locale "Health Clinic" to see if they may help him due to circumstances.
- There are websites for most common types of cancers with information about assistance as well as information about the disease. You can do a web search to find one of these organizations. If your dad is over 50, you can check with AARP. They have a lot of information about organizations which may be able to help as well as insurance options. Good luck to your dad.
- In the United States each state runs a Medicaid program for health care for the poor. Qualification is based upon financial resources. Generally, a person must first spend most of their own resources - cash savings and invested monies - before they can qualify for Medicaid. You may not give those monies to family members in order that the patient is "poor" enough to qualify. There is a "look back" period, 3 years or longer, in which the government can evaluate recent gifts a person has made to determine if they have attempted to circumvent financial rules to qualify for Medicaid. Certain assest are exempt from the Medicaid requirements meaning that a person does not have to sell certain assests prior to qualifying. The primary home, a car, and household goods (all subject to certain limits) are exempt.
