Does anyone else have a complete jerk for a boss? If so how do you cope?
My ass of a boss likes to micromanage everything that I do. I handled the companies cell phones (there are over 50 lines) but since this is not related to accounting my boss said to ignore the calls. Yesterday I was told to ignore everything that was phone related because it was a waste of time. Two sales people had major problems and I could not help. Today when I got in I was yelled at by the president since I ignored the sales people. I was then told that since I was incapable of handling the phones, I would be removed from the account. I then get up to my office and my jerk of a boss was sitting here with a look like the cat just ate a bird.....he asked what was wrong....I have yet to answer him. I was also told that the office was leaving today at 3:00 for the holiday, but since he promised a financial statement, I needed to stay and concentrate only on this, I am being required to stay after to make this aXX look better...... To top this off, no one has been told of this change and I am still getting all of the phone calls and people who are stopping by. If someone comes in to my office, the idiot is at the door asking what they need and why they are here... I am not allowed to say anything. Someone came up to help remove the cell phone items that I had, and he stood and watched to make sure that every item was removed. Then he asked me why I let them in here to interrupt me. It wasn't my choice- his boss the president had the items removed. I was then asked why I was upset and what it would take to make me happier? The phones were the only thing that he couldn't managed; since he knows nothing about them. I reported directly to the president for this. My idiot boss always said that he spoke with the pres, but he never did. This only made me look like I was not willing to cooperate and that I refused to work with others, while in the background it was not the case. I went down to talk with the president yesterday and my boss followed me. He does that when I am away from my desk. I kid you not; others have noticed this too. When I met with the phone rep, he made it a point to interrupt three times and then stated that since we had been going over the account for more than an hour and half, we must be shooting the breeze....He then asked how much long I would be. The rep left and we had to finish up the remaining items via the internet. He also watches to see when I am on the phone, yesterday while I was trying to work with a sales person, he stood in my door and told me that I could reslove my family issues at home since there was work to be done. I have been looking, nothing has come up yet.

- You need to find a new job, or you are about to enter into a very abusive boss/employee relationship. Your boss is testing the boundaries of how far he can push you, and so far, it's pretty far. To make things right with the president, you need to suck it up and apologize. Yeah, your boss told you to ignore it, but come on, did that really seem like a valid solution?
- A couple of times I had @$$e$ for bosses, got another job
- i would let the president know what is happening. dont blame your boss, because that will make it sound like you just make excuses. just tell him that you are frustrated because your boss is keeping you from performing your duties properly. also, if you do that, make sure that you are going above and beyond at your job, because then the president will be scrutinizing you and your boss to find out who he needs to discipline. if that still doesnt work, then begin hunting for another job. good luck! im in the same shoes!
- d only thing u can do is get another job. ur boss is not gonna change.
- Sounds like you need to find something else. I would look for another job then quit. Micromanagement doesn't work.
- You need to know your rights as an employee and stand up for yourself, tell the president you were only doing as directed by your supervisor, pass the buck back where it belongs. Sounds like harassment/hostile environment in the workplace, you may want to consult with an attorney (usually free) that specializes in labor law , if you are being singled out you may have a case, but if he's an a-hole to everyone then not likely much can be done. Some people think it's funny to harass an employee but they don't realize the nature of the consequences. Start documenting/keep a work diary of what is going on, that way you won't have to remember details later and you can let go of continually thinking about it to concentrate on other things. I had a boss like that. The city manager was not happy when the state showed up in response to my harassment/discrimination complaint. I was assigned to a different supervisor and eventually my ex-supervisor was demoted and I believe was asked to leave or left out of embarrassment. (he was not competent anyway and it was a matter of time before he sank his own ship but I accelerated the process) My coworkers were very grateful.
- Humans are such fun creatures, aren't they? I would definitely approach the president. "Bob, do you have a minute? I'd really like to talk to you about the cell phone incident the other day. (Come in......sit down.......) It really bothered me that I wasn't able to help Bill and Susan with their phones when they called from the field, but I had been told by Jim that I was to ignore all further phone issues because they're not related to my position in accounting. I realize that I reported directly to you for the phones, but when your direct supervisor gives you that kind of an order, it's difficult to ignore. What should I have done?" or something to that effect...... This conversation points out, respectfully, that the error was NOT yours, but your supervisor's, and may, in fact, get the president asking you questions about other aspects of your relationship with your supervisor, in which case you can certainly tell how you feel, but certainly stay respectful, always with the *company's* best interest in mind. I'll bet your company president is a smart person & would appreciate this talk. Good luck!
- if you don't like it

You can still keep your current job, while working part time; this could become a well paying full time job if you are a fast learner and good honest worker.
- I would find another job and quit. It's not worth it staying there, you are not married to this job, if you know what I mean.
