College financial aid, has anyone ever appealed a denial, how did it work for you?

Last fall i enrolled to to 12 hours and i was 6 months pregnant. I was doing fine in the beginning but around a month and half into the semester having contractions, back pain, and tired all the time. Due to my circumstances i had to miss school and because i had financial aid they wouldnt allow me to drop any classes. So to make a long story a short one i had my baby the week of the finals with an emergency c-section( 2 weeks before my due date) and ended up making less than a 2.0 for the semester now my baby will be 8 months and i want to go to school again buy im being denied financial aid, has anyone ever appealed the decision? Should i go back to my Doctor whom i havent seen in 8 months and ask him for the note that i should have requested a long time ago? Any first hand sugestions are greatly appreciated.

1. If the college has an appeal process go for it what can it hurt. Yes get all your medical information and any grades from tests that can show that you were doing well while you were in school. Also even though you get financial aid you can usually still drop classes

3. Gather all the documentation you have to support this, and go visit your financial aid office. Most schools have a program where you can appeal, but they must make you appeal per federal regulations. The important thing to remember is you should provide plenty of documentation & thouroughly explain the situation.
4. Yes I have appealed before. I had to appeal because i was on academic probabtion. All you did is type up a letter explaining what happen and why you got below a 2.0. Make sure in the letter you write how you are going to be able to bring your gpa up and explain that you have a plan to get good grades. When i appealed i explained that i was a transfer student and i was in a new environment and was dealing with big lecture halls. I also explained how i would go to tutoring and study sessions to bring up my grades. I would strongly suggest you get a doctors note and have him write a letter about your situation.. if you need anymore help in writing your appeal or suggestions i could send you a copy of my appeal so you could see what i did.
