financial aid?
heres the deal both of my kids that are going to college live with my husband were seprated how does the financial aid work . they are under his care. what papers does financial aid (fasa)ask for. do thay ask how much rent does he pay utlities or what what is it base on

- If they are going to applying for federal financial they need to go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and apply. They will report his income and his wife's if he has one as well as their own if they have one. They do not base financial aid need on his debt or the cost of utilities. Here is a good publication.
- If you are filling out the FAFSA today, what I would need to know is how long in the last 12 months did the kids live with dad. What is your date of separation? What we want to find out TODAY is who is the actual parent of record. Let's say the kids lived equally with you and their dad in the last 12 months, then the question becomes, who provided more than 51% of the kids support financially speaking. Once you've established this......you can move on to completing the FAFSA. Let's say dad is the parent of record, but you and he filed taxes jointly (assuming you worked)....your income would be 'backed out of the tax information'. FAFSA is only concerned with income. It doesn't care who pays utilities or rent. let me know if this helps
