FAFSA and financial aid question?

I filed my FAFSA. I am a single mom of four. Most of my income comes from child/spousal support, but the children are with me 100% of the time. I am not filing a tax return because the spousal/child support in not taxable income. Does anyone know where I report child/spousal support? Do I report that under wages? Since the children are with me 100% of the time and all the money I get goes towards them, dopes this qualify as them getting more than 50% support from me?

  1. Child support is not to be reported as income because it is not your income - I know you use it to pay rent buy food but that is done to help your children. Ask the financial aid office at the school you are hoping to go to and they can really help with the FAFSA. I returned to school with two children and got financial aid. I am so glad I did! I will never have to be dependent on anyone again!! I hope this happens for you!
  2. Child support is not considered income and you should definitely visit with your financial aid office either by phone or in person so they can offer the maximum assistance to you. Also make sure to visit with the scholarship office and ask for an application. While your visiting with them ask them if they offer anything for "non-traditional students" (this is for students with children at home) Good Luck to you and hang in there!
