Financial Aid, Student Loans... get money from that?
I don't know if this is a stupid question... but could I get money from my financial aid to get a lap top. I need one terribly and do not have the money. I just want to like add the money on my loans. Could I do this? Would I just talk to the financial aid people at my school? I am lost on this issue...

- A laptop would be an acceptable use of your student loan money if you need it for your classes, so yes, you could use your student loan money for one if you have funds left after paying your tuition, books, etc. as your loans for the Fall semester have been processed. You would have to talk to your financial aid officer to see if you have funds available. If no money is available for the upcoming semester, be sure to add it into your loan application for the January semester.
- If you have any financial aid left over after your fees and books and tuition is paid, you will get a check for the remaining amount and you can spend it on whatever you want to.

- it is true that you can use your refund check for anything you would like but there may not be any money left or not enough. depending on your school, you may be able to request additional money specifically to purchase a laptop. this is even if you have borrowed the maximum allowable loan amount for the academic year. they may want a copy of an advertisement for the laptop you are hoping to purchase in order to get the specific amount needed. talk with your financial aid office to see if they participate in this program.
