need a loop hole for financial aid help!!!!?

hi,just found out i need a co-signer for college financial aid being as i am under the governments stipulation of 24 yr age mark. The co-signer must be the one who claimed me in 2006 taxes. However i am not on speaking terms w/that person.I don't have any desire to wait til im 24 to apply for the aid as an adult.i want to start college now so i must file as a dependant therefore needing a co-signer.Any helpful loop holes around this government law will help tremendesly!!thnks i have talked to my counselor she told me that she would ask around but she didnt know if i could get around this... i talked to my counselor and she told me that she would ask around.but didnt know of a way...the college is university of phoenix online!! its a 100% online college so i can work during the day and go to school whenever i have a chance..

  1. It seems like your college counsler could help you with this. Have you asked them? Most colleges will do whatever they need to keep you there because thats how they make their money. Try them if you can't find any help here. sorry, Idk Good luck
  2. I have never heard that the cosigner HAS to be the person who claimed you on their 2006 taxes. If you try another loan company, you prob won't have this stipulation. Have you considered getting federal student loans like Stafford or Perkins loans? Neither of these loans require a cosigner or credit check. You can attend a community college or state school without having to borrow using those private, substandard loans with higher interest rates and higher fees. To apply for Stafford loans go to www.fafsa.ed.gov
  3. I don't believe if you are over 22 and live on your own, you don't need your parents ( or guardian, if that is the case) tax info to apply for a Pell Grant. Sometimes they will ask for a co-signer on a Stafford or Perkins loan ( this is a loan you have to re-pay as opposed to the grant, which you do not) but that person does not have to be your parent. Go talk to someone else in Financial Aid! Like the person you talked to's boss?
