Is financial aid available for summer sessions?

I was offered loans for this semester, but am only taking one class. Does anyone know if I can use those loans in summer if I am taking the minimum hourly requirement? I am planning on calling the Financial Aid Office tomorrow, but I am curious tonight.

  1. YOu can get a loan for the summer but you can't get pell grant or anything like that.
  2. Yes, financial aid is offered during summer too. Your school's financial aid office will be able to give you the exact details.
  3. I am a financial aid officer. At our institution, you can get a loan in the summer as long as you are enrolled in at least 6 semester hours and have not already borrowed the max $$$ for the award year. You can get a Pell grant only if you have not used the max $$$ for the year. For us it is 2 full time semesters for the year. So.....if you were 1/2 time in the Fall and full time for Spring for example....you would still have a 1/2 Pell for Summer. But, if you went full time both Fall and Spring, you would not have any Pell left.
