What type of financial aid can an International student get while attending a US University?

... if any. If there /is/ some financial aid for international students, please give names and explain them or link to appropriate websites. Any extra information you would like to include would be fabulous. Oh, and is it provided by their home country [mine being the United Kingdom] or the country in which they are studying - in this case; the United States.

  1. International students are required to prove they have sufficient funds for school, plus all living expenses and the costs of travel back home in order to get a student visa. Your home country may have aid or scholarship sources available to its citizens to study abroad. Your teachers or counselors are the first place to check. Check with your consulate, if you are already here and have run out of funds, but you may have to just go home in such a situation. Some companies have scholarship funds available for employees' children -- your parents should know or be able to check on that. In the US, you will not be eligible for loans and you cannot work, except for a very limited work-study or internship as part of your academic program - and many internships are unpaid, for college-credit only. Generally speaking, anyone going to any foreign country to study should be prepared to foot all the bills themselves.
