How helpful is financial aid for a 4 year college?

For individuals with low income, how much does financial aid cover for a four year college? Is it enough so you can go? Or is it not enough so it stops you from attending college?

  1. It really varies based on your income. In my case I got a Pell Grant and it covered my entire tuition, and I got student loans for my books. However, I attend a tech school. The best thing to do is apply online with FAFSA and find out what you can get. You won't know til you try! :-)
  2. Well, there are other factors than just low income... but on that one alone... If your or your parents income is low enough, you can take out subsidized federal loans to cover the entire cost of school and the cost of living. There are also grants and such... However, I personally was lucky... I went to a small highschool and so graduated really high in my class... which got me part of an academic scholarship... I was involved in the community a ton... which got me more scholarships... and I filled out every scholarship application I could find at every University I applied to and actually ended up with a full scholarship ride (including living expenses). It's actually more difficult for a lot of students from middle class families to get funded for college than it is for lower income kids.
  3. i mean if your income good than they are good.
