Could I receive financial aid to help pay for pregnancy and baby expenses?

I am a 20 year old college student and I just discovered that I was pregnant about a week ago. My parents are by no means poor, but my boyfriend and I are not well off financially. Could I possible receive financial aid to go to school or to help pay some baby expenses or am I too old to receive that now? I know one of my friends received something of this sort, but she was 18 not 20...

  1. You are not too old, it's for all ages. Go to your local health department, bring a check stubb, & they can check to see if you qualify for the medical card &/or wic.
  2. I have never heard of receiving financial aid to help pay for baby expenses. As far as I know, financial aid is used mainly towards school only, if there is any money left over after it is used to pay for tuition, then yes, you can use it to pay for your baby expenses if you want. If you're not that well off, I suggest you apply for Medicaid. As an independent single college woman, most likely you will qualify for it.
  3. yes go to a dcf (department of children and families) or a health department talk to them. they have whats called Medicaid which was what i had during my whole pregnancy and i didn't have to pay anything at all. now i had my baby 3 weeks ago and i need to reapply for him. good luck
  4. Usually the cut off is 21, but that depends on which country you live in. I have all this to look forward to because I'm 30 and doing a uni degree next year. I'm putting my hand out to the govt for some freebies, lol because I have to get somebody to look after my 2 kids as well.
  5. Is that why you let yourself get pregnant? To get aid? How much more irresponsible could you have been? I am sure the taxpayers are lining up to thank you.
  6. i know a girl who has a baby and wants a 2nd one with her boyfriend; she's 22 and waiting to get financial aid to have the next baby. everyone who is a dependent (more if independent) is eligible for a $5500 Stafford loan. even if your parents are paying for your school, you can get it for "living expenses."
  7. Maybe, you have to check with your welfare office. There are some guidelines to check. But more then likely you will get help.
  8. Sure Start Maternity Grant, pop along to your local Job Centre. Also Congratulations!
