Financial Aid...?

I do not quite understand what this is. 1.Do you have to repay financial aid? Or is it just like a loan you have to repay later? 2.Can applying for financial aid hurt your chances for getting into a school (especially if you are transferring into it)? 3. Should everyone apply for aid or just for people who really really really need it? 4. If I am thinking of transferring next year, will asking for financial aid hurt (I am a straight A student)? Thanks for your help :) I might transfer next year into a private high school, will asking for aid when transfering make it harder for me to be excepted? Is it possible to be excepted into the school but not be given aide(if you apply)? I am thinking about transferring into a private high school, not college, does that change any of this? sorry, in my first detail it should be 'accepted', sorry

  1. you repay loans.....financial aid is a blanket term. grants are included in that. you can apply for grants, loans, and scholarships. you only pay back loans. they are either subsidized or unsubsidized...meaning the interest accrues after graduation or during school. No...it will not hurt you at all....98% of college students have financial aid. Don't think twice, that's what it is there for. everyone can apply...but if you don't need to...don't. more money will go to those who do need it. No...not at all...ask for what you need. I am a straight A student as well...i take full advantage of what is offered to me. You do not have to accept everything that is offered as well...you will have to accept, sign and send in an award letter. it will tell you what you have been allotted. go to: www.fafsa.gov (i think) you apply through there. it's tricky...taxes, etc...but once it's done...its worth it
  2. 1.) It depends on the type of Financial Aid you recieve. Grants and Scholarships do not have to be paid back. Loans do, although not until about six months til you graduate. 2) Nope 3)Everyone should apply, even students who can "afford" college are eligable, and student loans are at a lower interest than other types of loans 4) Filing for Financial Aid will have no effect on whether or not you are accepted. Fill out your FAFSA.
  3. 1) There are different types of financial aid. Loans need to be repaid. Grants and scholarships do not. 2) Some admissions offices don't look at your finances, some do; I would say: Definitely apply for financial aid. 3) Everyone should try to get some aid. 4) Apply for all aid possible. With straight As you may get some $$. Here's what you do: 1) Apply to 3-4 colleges. 2) Fill out the FAFSA online (go to FAFSA.GOV.). Never never never PAY to fill this out. The "F" stands for FREE application for federal aid. 3) Fill out your State's application for state aid. 4) Find out from a local high school if they have a list of scholarships you can apply for. 5) Ask your college what you can apply for for scholarships. The VSAC website is a great resource (Vermont Student Assistance Corp) even if you don't live in VT. Best wishes!
