  1. before the college that u've applied to accepts u..if u just graduated..u should've applied in the beginner of the school yr..list all the colleges u're applying to..it'll take the financial aid ppl a few months to process it..and once that's done..all u're waiting for is to find out which school accepts u..then u go back to the website for the financial aid (fafsa)...update ur file but taking out the other colleges and leave the one college u're going to..then usign up for classes at the college and the money goes to that school....
  2. To maximize your chances of getting student financial aid, submit the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1 of the year for which you are requesting aid. If you apply before January 1 or without a Social Security number, your application will not be processed. The FAFSA is a comprehensive form. Be prepared to provide extensive information about your family's income and income taxes from the previous year, assets, family size, the number of family members attending college, and more.
  3. the forms come out on janurary 1st so apply as soon as your parents get there tax papers back because the sooner you do it the more you will get back
  4. You can file the 08-09 FAFSA anytime after January 1st. If you file FAFSA before you (and your parents if applicable) file your income taxes, then you will have to estimate the numbers from your tax forms. So then after you file taxes you will have to go back in to the FAFSA and enter the actual numbers. The 08-09 FAFSA should be filed if you are starting college Fall 2008 through Summer 2009. If you are wanting to go to school Spring or Summer 2008, you need to file the 07-08 FAFSA as soon as possible. My suggestion for 08-09: File your income taxes as soon as you possibly can and file the FAFSA immediately after that. It is best to file by March 1. You can file your FAFSA before you file taxes, but doing so MAY cause you to be chosen for verification (which you want to avoid if you can). You may get chosen for verification anyway. 1/3 of all FAFSA filers get chosen, for various reasons. Even if you are chosen for verification, if you've filed the FAFSA by March 1 and turned in the requested documents to your school you should be fine. Good luck with school!!
