Fed Financial

can i still apply for financial aid if my parents work and live abroad and are not citizens, but i am?

so i have a situation here, i am not sure if i can and how to apply for financial aid considering the fact that my parents live and earn a living in another country and are not U.S. citizens. However, I am U.S. citizen by birth and live in the U.S. with relatives (who by the way don't support me, it is my parents who support me with their income).

  1. you should go the the school you will be attending and discuss this situation with the financial aid department. there may be many options of financial aid available, or none.....but they should be able to direct you in the right direction!
  2. Yes, you may apply for financial aid. If you are judged to be a dependent student your parents' assets and income, regardless of their country of citizenship or residence will be factored in to determine your financial need. Your first step is to fill out the FAFSA...I'd recommend doing it online.
