Can both my son and I apply for financial aid?
I was taking classes online and had family issues that I had to take care of and had to drop my classes. They suspended my financial aid and I have filed for appeal. My son will be in college this fall as well. Will my financial aid have any affect on him, and is it possible for both of us to apply?

- it shouldnt effect him
- It shouldn't. My daughter and I have financial aid for college and they are seperate.
- you should be able to both get financial aid, i too had to drop out of my on campus classes and was still able to get pell grant for completely online degree, also you can apply for what is called a federal loan plus, is a student loan, but it is for parents who have children in college too.
- I would say yes myself. I am not sure why they suspended your aid, but it may because you owe a little bit to the school for the dropped classes(s). Happened to me once, had to pay out of pocket. I think if anything it would make your more eligible.
- You should both file, both of you are individual students and are separately eligible. However, you can claim him as a member of your household in college, but he cannot claim you under the regulations. So him being a college student will help you, but not the other way around. Your eligibility, though, will be dependent on the approval of your appeal from the satisfactory academic progress standards. Extenuating circumstances may apply, but you may need to follow up with third party documentation of your issues if you did not already include them.
