  1. fafsa.org
  2. Just get the paperwork and fill it out. Simple as that.
  3. The FAFSA, you can fill it out online.
  4. Yes you can call the admissions office or someone there and they will have a financial aid form and mail you or call you in return.
  5. You can get financial aid no matter where you attend college. You can go to your bank and they will set you up or you can go you the college and talk to someone in their financial department.
  6. get a financial aid packet from the nearest college to you(financial aid office usually) or the fafsa.org site. Yes, you can go to school out of state, but there are out of state tuition fees as well as other costs. Financial aid will not be enough to cover those in all likelihood. Do what I did, I worked and college took 6 years instead of 4, but I go there and the diploma.
  7. The first step to recieving financial aid is to fill out the fafsa (http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/). This can be done online or you can recieve a paper copy. It asks questions about your parents income, your income, and things like that. This application helps determine how much state grant money you can recieve, how much in student loans you can get (subsidized or other). The second step would be to contact the school that you intend to enroll in. They may have some other financial aid forms that you need to fill out, that will put you in the running for some scholarships and institutional monies. Thirdly, you search around for scholarships, bigger corporations (Target, Walmart, Pepsi, etc.) all have scholarships given out nationally, and some locally. You can also try www.fastweb.com. This is a website that will give you a list of scholarships as well. If you are still in high school, your high school counselors should also have a list of available scholarships. My biggest suggestion is to do everything as soon as possible if you are attending college in the fall because a lot of deadlines have already passed. At my institution most of the financial aid has already been distributed. Good luck!
  8. There are several types of financial aid. The first step is to fill out the FAFSA as early as possible. This makes you eligible for Federal Pell Grants, work studies, and loans and affordable rates. Many colleges also have their own financial aid programs and these you'll have to research yourself because they differ widely from school to school. Almost all schools will have you send in your SAR (Student Aid Report from FAFSA) to determine your EFC (Expected Family Contribution). From there they will choose to cover your need (Cost of Schooling - EFC) through grants, work studies, and student loans. This is need based. Many schools also offer merit money, money for being an exceptional high school student, or recruited athelete, or nationally acclaimed artist, etc. Top private universities and LACs (Liberal Arts Colleges) typically give a lot of money. Their philosophy is once you get in, they'll do everything in their power to make sure you can attend. Princeton University has a no-loan policy, for example, meeting all your need with grants while Williams offers several Tying scholarships each year, full-ride scholarships for both undergraduate and graduate school. So, to some students, attending a top private university can be even less expensive than attending their local state school. Finally, apply to scholarships. Your secondary school guidance counselor should know of many school and local scholarships that few people ever apply to. Fastweb.com is an online search engine of scholarships. Collegeboard.com also has a listing of scholarships. I'm a Californian and will be attending college out of state next year. It's entirely possible.
