Fed Financial - If i get a student loan from Sallie Mae, do I get a check in the mail or does is just pay my school?

If i get a student loan from Sallie Mae, do I get a check in the mail or does is just pay my school?

Reason being because I have personal loan from a friend and i want to pay him off also. And i plan to go to Rome and i will need funding for that

The loan funds are applied to charges on your bursar account. The Office of the Bursar sends you any excess funds remaining after your fees are paid.
