need advice from an accountant or advisor please!!?

about 5 years ago i almost got stuck in one of those cashiers check scams. i realized something was wrong and i contacted the bank manager and long story short the manager would not help me and they froze my account for months and i called over and over and they refused to help me because no one knew about the scam yet so they blamed me. my account was frozen for months and i couldnt pay my bills and other companies left negative marks on my credit report that are still there five years later. im trying to apply for student loans and i need my credit score fixed. i already wrote an email to citibank but id like to know what else i can do or who else i should be writing to to get the negatives removed from my report. any assistance would be appreciated!

  1. You need to go to the bank and talk to a human. If someone stole money from you account, you need to file an affidavit to that effect. If you did not pay your bills, then your creditors have every right to put negative marks on your credit report. Your credit report should reflect the truth (even if they are negative).
  2. Have you tried to obtain your credit report? You can get a free credit report annually. By viewing your own credit report, you can see what has been reported and then contact those who have the negative marks. You can also dispute them if they are there because of the scam. If your bank learned about the scam after the fact and it was legitimate, then they should work with you to get your credit report information corrected. Your account may be notated in regards to the scam. If you can't get help from the bank manager, go up the chain of commands. Write a letter to the VP, etc. and include the names of the reps who you have previously spoken to. Make sure to address your letter directly to the person who you are sending it to and then make a copy for yourself (for your own records). Also include a valid phone number so that they can contact you if they need to. Mail the letter as certified with a return receipt. This way you will know when the letter was delivered and who signed for it. Keep trying until you get someone to help you. If they don't, then they should provide you with a detailed explanation for their reasons. Persistence does pay off; it just may take awhile. Good luck!
