Financial Aid FAFSA?
Hello, I am 25 and I decided to finally attend college. My question is concerning filling out the FAFSA.. I have not done my taxes for the past 3 years, so will that prevent me from filing it out??????

- Yes - it will. That application is for FEDERAL student aid. You have to have previous years taxes to answer a lot of the questions on the application. http://www.fafsa.ed.gov
- Actually no, it will not stop you from filling out the FAFSA. Fill out the online FAFSA application with all the relative information and then present your W-2's to the college you will be attending financial aid office. They will determine from there if you qualify. I have been a student for going on 3 years now, haven't worked the whole time, and do not file taxes due to the fact that my husband is on disability, and as we all know, is not earned income. I would say your best course of action is just to fill it out and the college will notify you if they need any additional information. Hope this helps. Good luck!
- If you did not file tax returns because you did not have enough earnings then you are fine. Many people do not earn enough taxable income to file a tax return. Just answer the questions about filing as "will not file." If it asks if you were eligible to file the 1040A then say yes...that means you earned so little that you do not need to deduct itemized deductions. Make sure to answer all the income questions honestly based on any w-2 earnings you made for the past year. When the fin aid office reviews your resonse they will know based on your total earnings that you did not have to file a return.
