I need help in writing a letter of appeal for financial aid.?

My financial aid is on hold due to minimum units not completed. I need to write a letter of appeal but I not sure what to exactly write. I took one class per semester and ended up dropping the classes both semesters because my husband need my help for starting his new business and I also have a 10 year old. I really need the aid to attend school so I'm not sure what to write. Can somebody help me? I will be seeing a counselor at the school to attain a educational plan but I need a letter to go with it. Does anybody have any ideas on what would be decent for me to write?

  1. What does that mean "minimum units not completed"? If you went through the proper channels of dropping your courses then I don't know what that could mean. If you just droped out, and didnt withdraw from your classes, then you probably owe them some money for those courses, since you were technically still enrolled. What was the reason you dropped the courses? They don't care that you were helping your husband start a business, or that you have a kid.. they only care about getting their money, to be honest. Was it an economic hardship for you to be in school while your husband was starting his business? If so, you can put that in your letter along with other reasons why you dropped the courses. They like you to have as much documentation as possible. Maybe talk to a counselor at your school (an academic advisor or something). More info on the definition of 'minimum units not complete' would also help.
  2. I wrote an appeal and received financial aid. However, my appeal was due to a medical problem that called immediate attention that could not wait for the semester to end. I included in my letter the appeal to reconsider my financial aid due to unfortunate circumstances relating to my daughter's serious illness. Within the letter, I enclosed dates of appointments - hospital visits - doctor's notes and I attached a doctor's letter stating the reasons of my incompletion of classes. My appeal was accepted, my aid was awarded and I graduated. There has to be an understanding of compassion for your absence of classes, and did you collect aid and not attend college? If so, there may be a repayment when you return to school. Read the appeal procedures. If you were seriously in a financial need of helping your husband with a new business, then dates, facts and documents have to be included in your letter of appeal. Also, your husband's new business (income) may not help you with receiving financial aid, it is usually for single mother's and people without an income (jobless, etc.). It is not easy to ask for help with money from the state, good luck!
