i am a foreign student in the UNITED KINGDOM, and i need a student loan or any kind of financial help i can possibly get, can you please tell me how to go ahead with this or who to contact? AS I DO NOT HAVE ANY ACCESS TO PUBLIC FUNDS. ARE THERE ANY SPONSORSHIPS OR SCOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE?
Public Comments
- There are lots of private scholarships, talk to the Financial Aid department at your university. These are normally based on academic merit, but some consider financial need. There really isn't any reason the UK government should support you, so contact the government in your home country and see what programs they have available.
- Try going to your countries embassy and ask for their help.
- Depending on where you're from, your embassy will probably not be able to help you. You can get a student loan from a bank but the only bad side is that you have to get someone that is a British citizen and has lived there for at least 3 years to co-sign it with you. They do this so they can hold the person responsible if you pick up and run. The thing now is: Can you find someone who will trust you enough to co-sign a loan application with you?
- There are tons of scholarships that go unclaimed each year. Many $400, $500 or $1000 scholarships never even get applied for because people think it's chump change and not worth applying for. Well, get a few of those $500 scholarships and it'll really make a dent in your tuition bill. Do a search on scholarships, search your major, your ethnic heritage, your town, your parents employers, your employer, hobbies, high school, local chamber of commerce/rotary/ lion's club etc. Left-handed? There is a scholarship out there for you! Older woman returning to school? There are scholarships out there for you. Do combined searches on more than one criteria "hispanic women aviation scholarships" etc. Go to the library and ask the reference librarian for a reference book on scholarships. They usually have more than one. There are all kinds of scholarships out there, you just have to start applying yourself and make it your summer career to send out letters everyday for scholarships. Good luck!
