Is there government financial help for pregnant couple?
I am pregnant and planning to stay 4 months home after our baby delivery. We live in Maryland and are wondering if the local or federal Government had any king of financial help for stay at home moms or basically if we just had to save a lot of money right now! All ideas for and from stay at home moms and dads welcome!!!

- If you have little money, you qualify for wic. That's it.
- Not sure but Maryland probably has some type of state disability insurance that your employer pays into on your behalf. It is to help out in times of disability (pregnancy is considered a disability). In CA they will pay 4 weeks prior to birth and 6 weeks after birth (for vaginal). Check with your state government.
- If you are married, you will not recieve any help. If you are not married you may apply for wic (women infant & children) (it helps out with just a little bit of food/drinks while pregnant & nursing), & you can apply for the medical card even if you have insurance, if you qualify. But you can not get money to pay for your time off of work on maternity leave from the government. If you're a full-time employee w/ insurance that has STD (short term disability), that will pay 50% of your average income while you are on leave. Start saving!
- If you have little income, you should be able to qualify for wic and possibly food stamps as well. TEA is a little more difficult to get, but you may still be able to qualify. It doesn't matter if you are married or not. Just go to your local department of human services and get applications.
- Why is the government responsible for supporting your family? Work hard and save like the majority of us do. Stop looking for a handout! Our taxes are high enough without able bodied adults looking for support.
- Save a lot of money right now. There is no state in the United States that offers financial assistance to stay at home moms. Your only option would be welfare, and with the new work requirements you would either not qualify because the father lives with you, or you would have to put the baby in child care to participate in welfare to work programs.
