Should the government provide financial aid?

In order to protect u.s businesses from foreign competitors, should the federal government provide financial aid that would enable troubled buisinesses to survive?

  1. Matter of opinion, I guess, but I would say no, the government should not protect a business from competition, domestic or foreign. There are laws which prevent 'unfair' imports which are generally aimed at protecting against government-subsidized production or imports at lower than production cost. Free markets are the fairest allocators of resources, and if a foreign competitor can produce goods and get them here, for less than you can produce them, they should get the business.
